My televisoin remote is broke. I've no idea whether or not I can replace it with a universal one...I intend to shop and find out...

Meanwhile, my tv is stuck in AV mode. Keeping all the same this phillips TV does not have any buttons other than the volume and the chanbnel selector ON the TV itself.

How on earth did they make a TV that can not be adjusted without the remote? It is true

You shall require to have the original remote to have functionality of the set. The universals only do the basics. With some sets, they might do the odd feature, or part of one.

Thank you so much for your well advise. I received advice similar by email. I'm goin to listen to both of you: First I'm going to bring my remote to a service center to see if it can be surely fixed; then if not,
I'll have to order a new one. Thanks ever so much again.

As has been said that's a fact. I've the older Cinema six model, but I still am able to acess most of the functions of any TV, including onscre menus,
