I have an 02 Taurus that will, after it gets a bit warm, knock itself out of gear when shifting up a gear (automatic trani). I haven't figured out if it is 1st to 2nd but feel that that is where it happens. If I shift to neutral and let the RPM's drop to a normal idle and then shift back into D all is well, but it is getting worse. I know that in the older models (late 80's and 90's) one could adjust the trans but I can't for the life of me remember, as I have never actually done it myself. The Chiltons that I just picked up isn't much better than the manual that comes with the car. What happened to the older instruction manuals that actually told you something about the car? But I digress... If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it! have a most wonderful day.
