Hi, I have just purchased a home and will not move into it for a couple of weeks while I fix it up. I have purchased new toilets for each bathroom and wanted to remove them first, plug them and do tile and paint, etc. Is there a certain type of plug I can buy made to just temporarily cap the toilet drain? I only want it to be capped for about two weeks. Thanks for the help!

Greetings herdafer, welcome to the Forum.

You too Tiger Plumbing, seems like you've had some experience there, glad to have the help !!!

Just as a temporary closure, I'd lay a few pieces of Duct Tape over the opening, that should keep most of the smell out of the room/house, for the short time you'll have those units out of place.

Welcome both of you,

Have a good Day !

The cheapest fix I know is to take a small trash can or garbage can liner, place the bottom end of the plastic bag into the toilet drain about 6 inches. With the now (plastic bag lined toilet drain stuff crumpled newspapers until you get an airtight fit. If the plug proves hard to pull out, just pour water into the bag and the newspaper will shrink and allow the plug to come out
