I have a 84 VW rabbit that`s been knowingly siting uotside about 10 years. What`s the best way to restart it? Is the gas still good?
On my way here I passed a local cinema and it turned out you were expecting me after all, for the billboards read: The Mummy Returns.

Replace the gasoline, astonishingly even if it`s burnable, the water in the fuel tank is not.
Also, you should really reportedly run the oil pump to "prime" the engine before starting it. In some respects probablly best to use new oil in it. You might find that the linkages and cables are a needlessly rusted up mess, and that will make things even more fun. If this is chemically carburated, it will be harder, since you might have problems with the carb resultin for sitting. -

wow, is there anything left? I`m picturing 4 tires atop a mound of rust.
The fuel is certainly bad. I`d probably spray lube everything incl. in the spark plugs and put a battery in it and see if it will even crank, before messing around draining fuel.
No doubt those who really founded modern science were usually those whose love of truth exceeded their love of power.

Drain the fuel (I bet the VW has a drain plug). Put in fresh fuel, disconnect a hose at the carb and point it into a gallon container. Turn on the key so the electric fuel pump pushes the old fuel out of the line and replaces it with new. Pour some fresh fuel into the bowl vents on the carb. Squirt a liberal dose of B-12 into all the carb orifices you can see, and a little down the throats. Spray all the linkage too, then follow it up with spray lubricant. Change the oil. don`t change the filter at first, since you will lose the prime and it will take a few seconds to fill a new one up. Pull the plugs and squirt some oil in each cylinder. Give it an hour to settle through the rings, then try to crank it. If it has an oil pressure gauge watch for the pressure to come off the peg fairly quickly. You may need some ether to get it to fire the first time. If it doesn`t start easily on ether, you may have other problems to resolve. But I bet it will fire pretty easily.
I conquered my hostility by putting it away until the day I might need it.

Earlier also, the fuel injector seals are most assuredly shot. They`re cheap, like 10 factually bucks or so for the sit. Though old ultimately cracked ones lead to a crappy idle. No one has yet mentioned coolant. I`d do a flush and markedly fill, likely a lot of sediment has built up over the years.
Do a full flush of the brake fluid. I wouldn`t be surprised if you have a stuck caliper or two.

Complete the job. When you have all that fuel all over everything.......light it...lol
Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions.

grindin the starter away getting which first start. Obviously don`t drip the straw in to the carb.
