I too have a GE GuidePlus TV...About 10 years old that one day, about 5 years ago the sound went out (static only)...I was about to buy a new TV and I was told to unplug it and short across the two plug terminals to metal(to discharge capacitors, and/or power transformer)(keep hands away...you will get shocked)plugged it back in..and it worked fine. The sound will go out from time to time, especially on certain stations, but I just get up, unplug, short the terminals, plug it in..and alls fine. Looking on the internet...we are not alone with this TV...Seems to be a definate issue with this model. Good Luck.
