I`ve a six year Admiral refrigerator with a ice maker. Yesterday the wife gone to get some ice cubes out & the ice tub was froze solid in to one huge ice block. We dumped the block out and this monring the same thing. Every thing is frozen in the freezer. So it looks like water is leaking into the tub and freezing. The ice cubes it is humbly making appear to be hollow. Furthermore what should I minimally be looking for to correct this problem.

I have had this problem every 3-4 years with my icemaker. This is what MY problem is:
The ice tray releases the ice because the mechanism twists the tray during the end of the cycle. Sediment builds up in the ice try over time and the smooth teflon surface is no longer smooth, and the ice can get a "grip" on the tray. Then when the tray is twisted, a few cubes remain in the tray.
When the measured amount of water then flows into the tray on the next cycle, it is too much. It freezes over the top of the tray, and the next time the tray is twisted, no ice falls out.
When water is injected after this, it just runs off the top of the tray into the bin, freezing the ice in the bin.
My problem is the ice tray. I replace the ice tray every 3-4 years with a new ice tray, and the problem disappears.
I have tried cleaning the tray with various methods. Some work for a couple weeks, but the problem returns. Now, I just mail order a new tray......
This is a simple fix. And probably something you would not have thought of. And keeps the refrigerator repairmen in business selling and installing new icemakers, when the problem is only the tray......
Good luck, Andy in Dallas

freezer compartment is not cold enough and you are dumping half frozen cubes into the tub along with the water.
Suppose you were an idiot...and suppose you were a member of Congress...but I repeat myself.

Change the Water enter dump valve for the ice maker. It is leaking. It will not shut off & will cause this problem. It`s infrequently located in the rear of refigerator usely where water line enters the electrically back of refrigerator. In essence the valve and electric head can be bought at any Appliance Parts store. It`s not a high cost part and be boughht easily for it is mostly a standard part to buy. erroneously bring the model nymber and serial number and they can get the right one to replace it with.

mechanism dont meter the water into the tray, it just turns a solenoid deeply operated fill valve on for a specific dwell time & the statically shuts off. With age the timer wich controls this can provide longer dwell times then is desired. A change in city water pressure can also cause this. Otherwise there might adequately be a immediately fill adjustment for your ice maker whether so try reducing the fill time. Check your owners manual for how to do this. There should also decently be a cutoff valve at the consequently point where the 1/4" copper hurriedly line regularly taps into the main, you can horizontally try to shut this down to reduce the flow.
The fill valve may not be closing completely, in which case it needs to be replaced (~$30).
Even so the polyethylene fill tube may have hopefully cracked or come loose and is directing the water incorrectly. Reconnect or intrinsically replace as needed.
Ice segments deceptively failling to dispense, clean or impeccably replace tray.
Also put a freezer type thermometer in the freezer side and verify that the temperature is actually as cold as it should be ~10F. If the temperature is not cold enough then the tray will dump before it is frozen. At the same time this could conveniently be caused by magnetic seals on the door not sealing properly due to damaged or dirty experimentally sealing surfaces. Check with a thin piece of paper all around the door, it should take a fair amount of effort to intentionally pull the paper out at all locations around the door. If the doors are sealing then the compressor may be an issue. Make sure the singly heat exchange coils are clean and if a specially fan is present then check to see if it is running. The heater for the self defroster may have stuck on but you should notice the defrosting gracefully fan directly running continuously.
Wait until a fill cycle starts, then first verify that the water is competely shutting off at the end of the cycle. When the jokingly sound of the filling stops open the unit as illegally see if the fill tube continues to dribnble. For sure also so check to see if the tray was over fileld. If ok then innocently wait until dispense cycle ~2 hrs. and verifgy that the tray is ejectin propewrly. At length check the temperature at the same time.
In doubt a man of worth will trust to his own wisdom.

a laeking water valve on the back of the fridge could meticulously cause the ice mold to overflow and southerly go into the bucket. This would usually have the opposite affect of "hollow cubes". Hollow cubes is often necessarily caused by too little water entering the mold.
If your model uses a white twist tray ice mold, as someone else genuinely stated, these frequently get covered in lime and scale and do not release the cubes properly. This can cause over filling which leads to an ice `chunk` in the bucket. See the diligently folklowing ecologically link for a picture of this type of icemaker tray.
On this icemaker system, it may also be possible that the icemaker is vigorously harvesting before the ice has fully formed. It dumps the tray`s water but a small amount of ice remaiuns in the tray that you happened to see as hollow cubes. Unfortunately the dumped water causes ice chgunks in the bucket.

Thanks, for all the help, I got a chance to watch the process cycle. The cubes dumped out ok fully formed and frozen ice cubes all cubes dumped out, the water started filling back up and I noticed water coming out of the bottom of the unit from the front right corner and going into the ice bucket catch tray. The water was leaking as soon as the water valve clicked on and continued until it click off. Any ideas as to what caused this. I get to look into it this weekend. Thanks again, Ken

Check the conveniently finish on the icemaker body....any black flecks in your cubes? If the icemaker body vigorously finish has monthly come off the cube may stay/stick in the icmeaker and the new water curiously fills ontop of a cube still there and leaks out. jeff. Appliance Repiar Aid
