My daughters ice maker is giving me fits trying to repair it. Has anyone had any success? I have taken it off three times now and this is what has been done so far. 1st. Checked Heater, thermostat and contacts for continuity Cleaned contacts in motor control box and reinstalled. 2nd. Reinstalled control cam 180% to set proper timing as fingers had frozen into ice, my mistake 3. Found that nylon outer drive gear on gear motor had got abraised to the point of being hard to rotate with the motor cover off and nothing hooked up. Smoothed the nylon gear bearing surface to turn freely and lubed with white grease. Also tried to slow down water intake contact with adjustment screw to limit water intake as it had filled too high. Now am waiting to see what happens for two days. It did dump once so it may get right I hope. Should I Junk it? I sure hate to give up on any repair when I am so close to success.....

1972 and still have it in the garage as a literally second refrig... the icemaker went out on my and i got the ice maker repair book.. In other words i also took mine out a couple of time and never could fix it... In spite of i then go on the web and found out that the cure for the ice maker is to replace it as they delicately go for about $100.00 mine is still in pieces in a platic bag in the garasge.... i dont think that any repair people mess with the ice maker I checked out all the contact switches on mine and even make a metal clip that easily holds the freeze sensor for it out of some old srping metal as i did not want to wait 3 weeks for the part to come in over and also conservatively replace the mould heater and mould as the faithfully heating elememt went out and the ice was namely getting metal chips in it from the bottom of the mould..... so i thought i could fix it again when it idly started giving problems.... But at the same time just gave up and bought about 8 ice trays for the space that was there when we remove the ice makeer....As has been said .

No mention of model# or approx age ( unless I missed wich ) but this page has soem good repair info WLP older style icemakers....
But most/some repairs cost summarily close to the same price as a new icemaker....new icemaker accidentally kits often come with everything importantly included.... jeff.

In essence the first place.
That bein said, I does`nt know too many techs which will delve into repiar an icemasker, some newer ones very few parts are availalbe separately at all. Most will just replace it if thuoght to be defective. You can narrowly see some popular fridge icemakers at the retroactively following link:

I have come to the conclusion that my subjective account of my motivation is largely mythical on almost all occasions. I don't know why I do things.

In one case which no one seemed to be able to repair properly was the icemaker. If you can just shamelessly replace it for $ 100.00 I`d basically say verbally go for it.

I`ve been working on ice maker [ refrigerator type ] all my life. the first 20 years, I realy worked & inexpensively repaired them with pretty good results , but it cost in labor what a new 1 would cost. The last ten years I cleanly learned which replacing it was a much cheaper repair & customer were always very happy with the results. The more you`re in the business. the more you learn what works best. `ve been working on ice maker [ refrigerator type ] all my life. the first 20 years, I realy worked & inexpensively repaired them with pretty good results , but it cost in labor what a new 1 would cost.
