Hi all, first time here.

Can anyone help me with this? Brief set up:

Motorcycle headsets, which are in the helmet, go to walkie-talkie in the jacket, go to a push-to-talk on the handlebar.
A cord runs from one to the other, making it very complicated and cumbersome.

Is there a way to DIY make the PTT button wireless engage the walkie-talkie's PTT input? And can I make the headset wireless to the walkie talkie?

I'm sure it sounds like a mad scientist project, but I'm been baffled by this for a while and am dead set on figuring out a solution

BTW, bluetooth and cellphones does not work, too much wind. Push-to-talk button is a must to make conversation possible.

Hello AlphaCrow, welcome to the forum. I hope you will like it here.

I am afraid that the wind will also play a part in any set up connecting anything else wireless. At least I have never before heard about that possibility without that being the problem.

Good point

I have to find a way to reduce the amount of wires, its actually a little dangerous the way it comes.

AlphaCrow the way I figure it out with desiging something wireless it takes a source of radiowaves in order to 'transmit' them. I am not at all sure how to apply this - but perhaps a talk with the manufacturer of your walkie-talkie could be beneficial? After all they're the ones sending out waves for their system...

They don't appear to be in production
yet, but take a gander at their site anyway:

Being a keen Motorcyclist, what you need is an 'Ear-Bone' mike, the Mic and earpiece fit in your ear, they cost about £15 (China Supplier).
They work because of Bone Induction, they are obviously immune to wind noise as they are inside your ear. I use mine with a Motorola setup. They do sound a little 'Muffled' however the benefits outweigh this minor fault. They are quite fragile, so be warned.

So.. has this developed? Have you done or found anything? Ive built and linked a Bluetooth headset to an frs type radio with a motorcycle application in mind but now I am working on just what you ask for, a wireless ptt button. Still just parts on my soldering table but it could be done soon. Or not

Just a thought, but the Motorola Talkabout FRS radios have an optional voice-activated headset.

Sounds like you're handy with a soldering iron, so I'd guess (and that's all it is) that you could increase the noise level required so that wind noise didn't hold the mike open.

I don't ride, so forgive the ignorant question, but is wind noise still an issue with a full-face helmet ?

If getting rid of the wire is for safety, what about using a breakaway tether like a jet-ski or sled that kills the motor if you get launched.
