I took my car in for an emissions here in GA, the car had 134,001 on the odometer. When leaving the station I checked the data sheet, they had wrote 194,001 for mileage which goes straight to Carfax database. Now when the car goes back in a year, which will have less than 194,001 it will come up a "odometer discrepancy" . I made them run it back thru at no charge which will show 2 emissions in one day, with correct mileage, but it will still show up on Carfax as odometer fraud.
This also happened on my inlaws Buick which had 33k and they wrote 31k, now that Carfax report read "odometer discrepancy"(Clean Air Act said there is nothing they can do about it.) Carfax mileage is base on the person that keys the mileage in the computer at the emission station. Most people don't check the emission spec sheet for correct mileage or do the carfax their own car, and never know until you go to sell it and they run a Carfax on your car. So when your are at the station watch the monitor when they key in the mileage make sure they are correct, once they start the mileage goes to Carfax database and stay forever. I hope this will save somebody a headache, especially if you have a nice truck or car.
