I am installing a new pool pump and have wrapped the threaded joints with regular white Teflon. I just returned from a run to the hard ware store, where I noticed that on the package of this said tape it says to be used on pipes up to 1 1/2. (mine are 2" Is this a serious problem, do I need to start from scratch?

i doubt it. you should be fine. if in doubt they have liquid Teflon paste.
