Kenmore 70 Series washing machine basket does not spin fast

I have a Kenmore 70 Series washing machine model # 110-82374100. I’ve had the washer since 1985. The basket does not spin as fast as it should for the spin dry cycle. This happened slowly over a month and now clothes come out dripping wet. It drains water ok and the pump seems good, it runs through all cycles. Feels like a clutch may be slipping?? What can I do?

When all cycles work except spin, I usually find that the lid switch has broken. On this old of a washer, the lid switch only controlled the spin. On newer ones, machine will only fill if lid switch is not made.

sense you said you shorted the wires at the lid im assuming you mean the lid switch. if you bypassed the lid switch and its not spinning right then it could be a clutch it could be a belt. does it agitate at the right speed or does it seam to sometimes struggle.

this is dangerest the lid switch is a safty device so the machine stop when lid is open in spin. not recomended has nothing to do with slow spin. so if your hand or loss clothing get down in drum it does not pull you in. door up open switch. when door close switch close again 1-high / 0 low computor logic no.

two: the reason it agitates and pump water works ok, is because the belt load is not as great and the condition allows it to work some what.

three: after 42yrs as a tv/appliance repairman
and my product in my store was whrlpool appliance and this is excatly what this machine is. this is a classic belt condition. in spin it has a water load plus wet clothing load is about 100 to 135lbs load. belt wear and condition makes it spin slow. ( no adjustments for belt replace only)
PS: appears that certain models have belt adj loosen motor pull back.


four: this machine requires that the transmission be loosen and pulled back on it side that is pull part of the way down.
their some spacers that have to be removed and clutch has a key that has to be removed.

five: home owner can not fix this. i will see if i can fine a drawing if i still have the manual.

if you do not know what your doing your done clutch is subject to damage real easy. do not pry on clutch to open it will bend. effiency
will be lost.

i have the road manual only will post shortly.
