Hey Jeffie, thanks for responding. No luck there, I'm afraid (I'd previously tried OwnerIQ, actually). Tried a couple of universal remotes -- one code seemed to get a reaction from the TV (it switched off, but then switched immediately back on, even though I hadn't hit any buttons). Not sure if that means the IR mechanism on the TV is dysfunctional, or if is working! Sweet little TV -- I'm thinking of getting an IR controlled switch (one of those things you plug into the electrical outlet) so I can just turn the thing off, as obviously the channels and volume can be controlled through the converter.

Update: Borrowed my brother in law's 32 dollar Radio Shack Universal Remote. Well, that worked on the Memorex just fine, using the five digit code 10179. So the good news is that the TV IR works (yay). But how come none of the other three universal remotes (all of which use four digit codes and one from Radio Shack) work? What's the correlation between three, four, and five digit codes? Must I conclude, having run through all the codes on the three remotes that don't work, that they just "don't work with this tv"? Thanks.
