I have a Mitsubishi 55inch big screen vs-55707 that has good color but there are lines all over the tv. Can't see the picture really well at all. Was trying to see what it might possibly be and if theres a way I could fix it myself.

hi lines on screen is pretty vague.common description but usually different results.are the lines there all the time.are they colored lines are they arching in the background like half moons.are they there on a blank video input.a few things to narrow it down.does it do it when you are watching a dvd movie.

black line that are straight and go from the bottom up. They are there while watching Dvds and when we switch to the Wii. Sometimes they'll disappear and come right back. Hope this helps?

I think it's rear projection...Im not to good with tvs. it has three tubes green, blue, red and it looks like it goes onto the back of the tv then bounces off to the screen. the lines are about 2 inches think and eith go from bottom up or top to bottom. It's from left to right touching the edges. I can see the picture in the back of it but not when the lines go through it and I can still see some of the pick when the lines go up..I hope im not confusing you...I wish I could take video and send it.

the only thing i can think of is try unpluging the dvd player and if you have any video going into a reciever unplug it.i have senn black lines and see thru lines running from toop to bottom.it was caused from interference.from stereo or dvd players.try disconnectingeverything from the back of the t.v.and put it on a blank video input and see if the lines are still there.you may have to turn up the brightness a little to see if the lines go away.

Ok, so I went to try what you said and went to turn the tv on and withing 10 seconds it shut itself off??? I did notice that the lines when it was on would go from both ways..top to bottom or from bottom to top. sometimes it would get so bad that I couldn't see whats behind the lines.

sorry, I did get it back on and I unhooked all the stuff from tv and it didn't help. It's just weird how I can watch tv but I just see lines about a foot separate going up the screen. but when it flix to a different pick sometimes the lines freez and don't move. then a different pick they start moving again.

if they are lines that run from left to right and scoll to the top and then start at the bottom and roll back to the top again in the background then its a filter problem in the power supply.

I would start by looking for capacitors that might have bulging tops in the power supply and maybe tap around to see if it is a loose connection

theirs two large heat sinks on horizontal vert voltage board i think on right side.they look like str packs.about size of a zippo lighter.one is for vertical output the other is convergence out.this feeds into vertical stk packs.also you can not tell if caps are good or bad by looking at them you have to remove to test.for charge and drain.so happens theirs a small 24v voltage regulator ste something near flyback right side about the middle.look for bad solder underside of board in this area.replace all caps areound this regulator they are dried out.also ste is no longer avaible for mfg.caps read what on them rs or any supplier can come close not critical make sure voltage ratings are higher no lower ex:10uf 25vdc replce with 10uf 50vdc etc etc10uf can be 15uf etc about 5 to 10 percent of the value.ste something is a regulator need to know pin outs to replace.check fo solder first start their.
