I saw a trick or tip once, that said if you increase the tension on the spring that gives the mass air flow its springyness, that I could lean out my fuel/air mixture. This is on a 1991 VW Jetta w/1.8 litre gas engine. Besides doing this is there any quick and simple ways to mechanicly lean my fuel mixture, feedback would be awesome, thanks.

if you not savy on how computor system works then i do not recommend you tamper with any sensor.the engine coolant sensor and oxygen sensor are in most cases responsible for fuel control.so with that said if car is not broke do not fix it.

the things you have control on is: fuel filter, air cleaner, oil filter, and change oil ,plugs wires, plugs, belts, change thermostat to make sure engine is at right temp so sensors detect heat at right times required for fuel efficently.air pressure in tires, correct tire sizes that came with car.use the fuel that run your car the best no matter what cost beats engine damage and repairs.most of fuel recommendations by mfg.do not ask for trouble by creating one.this guy says this and that one says that use your manual came with vw recommended maintance.
