My maytag won't agitate with a load of clothes in, but does when its empty, I have checked the belt, and that seems fine, as well as the center pulley that turns freely in both directions - does anyone have any suggestions what else I could check, and better yet how I could fix it?

is it a 2 peice agitator. if so is the bottom moving with cloths but not the top. if the top is not moving but the bottom is then the dogs are wore out. get a rebuild kit there like $20 i think with S&H.

that maybe what you do but when your washer is not a trash find then fix it. i replaced the entire agitator in mine as one of the bottom feet was broken and the top didn't agitate. paid $70 for it then 1 week later the gearcase went. then i tossed it. both parts of the agitator are important. the top part helps turnover the cloths so they all get washed.
