1989 Subaru GL automatic drives but will not shift out of first but will go into reverse, a fair amount oil inside of hood and all over engine like it was blown there and had approxiamately a 2 foot puddle of oil on the ground underneath the engine. I was driving on the interstate at 65 mph and without warning I noticed the engine revving and the rpm gauge was red lined. I pulled over checked it out and then ended up driving it 2 miles to the next exit after I put 2 quarts of oil in it. Do you think this car is repairable?

Wow. Juleejuleejulee that is hard to say, in principle every car is repairable if the right parts are being replaced that cause the problem. Subaru's are known for having weak separator covers causing oil leaks. The oil pump should be taken off and the o-ring behind it replaced and resealed. That is just one of the options that could be causing the problem though....
