I'm probably evil, but it's like that leak was almost created for returning your car to the shop

I can't think of anything, if it sealed the leak it would probably seal other areas where you actually do want the oil to flow.

The most difficult thing about replacing the gasket is making sure it is aligned properly so it doesn't "pinch" somewhere and then being sure that you don't over-tighten the pan when you put it back in place.

Good luck.

I'll be thinking about you as I climb into the wheel well of my 99 Taurus to replace that alternator.

Forecast is the same here in the midwest so I can finally feel "comfortable" enough to work outside again.

Got the new alternator on, with a few bruised knuckles to show for it, and it is testing out ok right now. I talked with a mechanic friend and he informs that this is not, unfortunately, an unheard of experience and he has needed to replace the same alternator two or three times on occasion before finding one that is good.

While I was at it, I gave the car a tune-up, including new wires, and clean-ed out the EGR valve.

Hopefully that will do it for a while and my teenager will be able to drive this car that I bought so he could use it and my wife and I can stop playing taxi.

I hope MJ got the work completed as well.
