Looking for a way to replicate the function of a damaged turntable support (Kitchenaid part #4174943) that is no longer available.

Part sits on a square spindle (7/16" x 7/16" that rotates when the oven is operating. The turntable support piece holds a round metal tray.

Thinking that perhaps Whirlpool turntable support #4375442, which also has a plastic center, might be adapted to perform function of the current Kitchenaid part.

Looking for information about the physical shape of the underside of the Whirlpool part. Hoping I could cut/drill it to create a square opening that would fit on the spindle in my current oven.

Here's a website with the part in question: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx? part_id=3107716&pn_=4375442

Ezmac welcome to the forum
From searching for this info over the internet it is almost completely impossible to see the underside of this part. Have you seen it IRL?
It sounds like a very good idea to cut or drill a fitting opening and use it in your Kitchenaid, if all the other specifications fit

I discovered two wonderful things today about the part (4174943) that I thought I was going to have to replace (and which is reportedly no longer made by ANYONE)

1. Thanks to guidance from Tim Martin of Martin Microwave, Chatanooga, TN, I was able to clean my current part of the charred material using sandpaper)(likely a piece of food initially that attracted microwave energy and started heating up/charring over time which perpetuated the arcing problem I was having). Once the part was nice and clean again, my oven worked like a champ - all arcing was gone.

2. More importantly, Martin knew that my 1990 Kitchenaid microwave oven was actually made by Sharp. By going through an old inventory of Sharp parts he had at his company, he was able to locate a new, identifical turntable support part that matched my Kitchenaid part. The trick was that it had a different part number -- # FROLPB003MRK0 -- The good news is that this part IS in fact, still available from Sharp (though no one at Whirlpool or Kitchenaid seems to know that it exists at Sharp).

Kudos to Martin Microwave and the problem solving approach he offered this no-longer-discouraged engineer.:

Ezmac great you got in touch with him and he could help you out so successfully. I am very happy for you. It sounds as if you wouldn't have 'met' him you would be facing a puzzle. I wonder why this is not know to kitchenaid, btw. I mean shouldn't this be part of their customer service to know these things?

I let 'em and all the other vendors who told me that no part existed of this find. Perhaps they'll update their knowledge bank.
