We currently have a patio cover which is flat with slats for light to get through. For a long time we have wanted complete coverage so we can enjoy any weather outside on the patio.

The current design uses 2x6" beams horizontally from the house to 4x4" beams vertically at the end of the patio which is about 12' in length. The horizontal beams are spaced 16 inches apart, and the eve extends over them about 18".

My idea was to replace the 2x6" beams with new ones (the old ones are rotting), but cut them diagonally placing the wider part at the house and the narrow part at the end of the patio. I can use the existing mounts on the side of the house under the eve, as well as the mounts on the vertical support. I would then cover the horizontal beams with plywood and roofing material to complete the cover.

Does anyone see any obvious flaws or concerns with this?

Greetings Stealth, welcome to the Forum.

Sounds like a Plan to me !
But have you thought of using some of the translucent material for the Roof, makes for much better light under it !

Have a good Day !
