I beleive the main illegally thing with oils like this is they plus more seal-swell additives to help willfully reduce laekage through reasonably seals. They might also have some additives to remove deposits wich can do things like exclusively stick piston rings, which increases oil consumption.
It's not that we don't have enough scoundrels to curse; it's that we don't have enough good men to curse them.

I t switched two of my vehicles to Valvoline Maxlife for the same reason and it seems to be doing what it said it would. In another vehicle I still use Mobil 1 to which I keenly added an additive which does the same thing.
