I have been using the Philips PM335 universal remote control with the Advent Q2035A flat tube TV for sometime because I don't have the original remote. Sometimes I pressed a wrong button on the remote the control can be lost, but usually I just reprogrammed. The codes published on the PM335 manual for advent doesn't really work, so I searched the web and use 0118 which works for me.

Yesterday, while the tv is on (on video mode) as I was watching DVD, I accidently pressed the PIP (picture in picture) button on the remote control and I lost the control over the tv. But this time, even the buttons on the tv panel (on/off switch, volume and channel etc) all failed to work. I unplugged the tv and plugged it back in, the tv turns on immediately (with red and green indicator lights on) but the screen is dark. If I press any button on the tv panel (other than the power button), the tv turns off. The power button doesn't work at all. I then unplugged the tv for overnight (>8 hours) and plugged back in. It's the same problem!

I searched the web, and it seems that certain codes from the universal remote control can kill the Advent TV (erased the content on one of its EEPROMs, e.g.). Now I'm just wondering if there's a way to restore the original factory setting on the this TV without changing the EEPROM and Microprocessor? Is there a way to "hard reset" the tv, or enter the service mode without using remote control? Note I don't have the original Advent TV remote control. Thanks a lot!

It doesnt happen that often but sometimes using the wrong remote will send the wrong command to the micro and eeprom.thats why for 20 years I allways tell people to use the original remote control. If you dont have one you should order one.In your case you may have to replace the main signal board now.and order the remote.most service menus you have to get into you need the original remote.the only other option is to open the t.v. and see if they put a little black reset button on the signal board good luck

I just did open the tv, but no luck. There's no reset button on the circuit board. I did see the microprocess that's supposed to be replaced though. But it's a lot of work...

the micro and eeprom on these boards are not meant to be changed.you should replace the whole board if is available.unless you have the right setup as far as needle point irons and microscopes and chip removers it is really difficult to do without damaging the board.when I worked at pratt and whitney in electronics.we use to change parts on boards but they had all the right tools.IN t.v.repair unless you have a good shop you should just replace the main board.
