Hi, this is my first post and I am having lots of problems. Starting about a month ago my truck began behaving wierd (2003 Ford Ranger). Every once in a while when I go to start it I can't put it in gear (it is a manual), sometimes if I really start to pump the clutch it will engage and then works fine, but other times it just sits there for a coupld of days and all of a sudden works again..... It seems to have more problems in cold weather than in warm weather. Also I took it into a mechanic when I first was having the problem and asked him to take a look at the clutch and clutch cable and he said that he couldn't see anything wrong (and of course as soon as I had it brought in it started working fine)
So what do you all think it is? Did I mess up my transmission? Is my clutch going to need replaced? Why does the tempurature matter?
Thanks in advance

I would begin by looking under your hood you will find the clutch slave cylider, it looks like a brake master cylinder usually a white plastic cylinder with a removeable cap, consulte your owners manual for the proper type and amount of fluid required...

Hope this helps, good luck and have a great day

i concure with jman if fluid is disappearing chances are you need clutch throw out bearing, clutch and pressure plate. the travel in ram is to far by pumping clutch your pre filling oil line and running out of fluid.the throw out bearing is not pulling pressure plate back far enough to shift. this makes problem temp sentive between cold warm or hot this is not unsual.happens on tractor trailers also.roll up your sleeves take a saturday good for all day and part sunday.better check and see if parts house has parts first.change ram inside also rebuilding is iffee to keep for takeing it apart two or three time get it over with install a new one.
