Problem with Indesit 1200 washing machine

I have an Indesit 1200 washing machine that now refuses to accept / use the fabric conditioner from the draw compartment. At the end of the cycle the concentrate seems a little diluted but has not been taken into the wash, thus the clothes dry out feeling anything other than smooth.

Any ideas what the problem / remedy might be ?

It could be that the lever system (going from the control selector to the top of the soap dispenser) is jammed, or perhaps the spring came off...
