I inherited recently a bunch of beautiful hardwood flooring (new in box), not engineered, traditional stuff. Really the only room in my house where I could use would be in the basement.

Currently my basement has some old carpet on top of a concrete floor. My main problem and question is this:

I am 6'4" and already have fairly low ceilings. I don't want to raise the grade much. What is the best way to install the flooring? If I put a 2" sub floor and then nail it to that I think i won't fit in the basement anymore!

Would I be able to lay down a moisture barrier and then just edge glue the floor together and allow it to float like a pergo floor?

I don't know... thanks in advance,.

Hello Ladieu,

welcome to the forum

Aren't there any thinner sub floors available?
