My car started making funny noises when I turned sharp corners, days later it began making noises and seemed to pull on the steering when making mild turns or lane switching. I brought it to Firestone, who just replaced the steering pump 2 months ago due to a leak. They investigated and said it was the Steering /Rack & Pinion and the parts were 500., the work 200. and the alignment after another 150.00.

Does this sound right? I have little car knowledge and don't want to be scammed. However, the car was getting worse and I was getting concerned.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Hi Mlisa, welcome to the forum I know exactly what you mean. Prices though cannot be confirmed via a forum because every area has his own price tags. It is lousy not knowing if one is cheating you or not. I think the best thing you could do is ask a few garages for their price indication.

And, yes - you are so right: don't keep driving this car with these problems, it could be potentially dangerous

Hey there,

price does sound right if that includes parts and labor.

I like saving money and have enough cars to to do it myself though. Unfortunately it is a difficult task.

Does anyone know how to remove the steering column from the rack? I hot the knuckle off half way but have no more plAy. Am I supposed to do more from the inside?

Thanks
