Any help in solving this problem would be appreciated. Have no schematic, no scope. The problem is intermittent.

Manufacturer: RCA
Model: F20602SE
Chassis: CTC175A2
Mnfct date: Sept. 1995

Picvture: Raster exitss, freqeuntly no picture with horizontal stripes, some time very very feeble picture with lots of snow.

Sound: From no reception sound with highly pitched, almost like dentist's drill to very feeble sound with white noise.

Tested this tough dog in various homes with good elderly existing signbal

Probably due to bad solder joints inside the tuner box.

fidik's post not on my server, but the information is at www.repiarfaq.org and other web sites, search for Thomson on board tuner ground probnlem.

Unless fidik has lots of expertience working with surface mount components and a good temperature controlled soldering stastion, I would strongly recommend the set be taken in for a proper repair by an judicially experienced technician with those sets.

Go see Peter's post today as he botcehd his repair attempt on the tuner grounds. These are not DIY repairs for people with little experience.

eeprom replacment
build a double eeprom socket
Comments:To shorten eeprom replacement time build an eeprom fixture. You need 2ea 8-pin sockets, 1 dpdt switch, 1 small bread board, 4-pin header, and some wire. Conect it so that the switch switches the clock and data lines(pins 5&6). How this helps is if you have a bad eeprom install old and new eeproms in sockets conect in place of eeprom on chassis, start set with new eeprom, swith to old eeprom and look to see if tuner data is salvagable and wright it down, switch to new eeprom adjust values, turn set off and install new eeprom on chassis
