My 1997 RCA 32in Console model G32643SK which has Chassis CTC 187 CN3 quit all at once while operating and will not power up now. For some time, it has acted strange in that when you hit the power button on either the remote or the set, it would start to power up but before the screen lit up, it would drop out, and you would have to hit the button the second time for it to continue to power up.
It acts to me like a relay is dropping out or a switch or diode is not responding to the power button on either the remote or the set itself. I scraped the schematic off and looked for items that might be involved and found these although I know nothing about their purpose! CR4303 (startup diode), F4001 (line fuse), SW3411 (Power Switch).
I might add that now when plugged in, there is nothing but a very slight high pitched sound coming from somewhere!
Can anyone advise me as to what is likely wrong? Thanks....

Ccrider966, I have read that this problem is also called "the kiss of death" - meaning (well you know what that means )

I think it has to do with the protection safety circuit that might either itself be defective or is detecting a faulty condition in one of the other parts of the tv of which there are plenty.

The RCA/GE/Proscan sets have smps which have noted failures in some of the diodes. The "switch mode power supply" - smps - also has protective mechanisms for over current and failure of limiting devices.
Capacitors and diodes in the smps are most likely your problem. Most CTC chassis will have a 'kit' of problem prone items you can get from suppliers.
Not touting anybody, but tritronics and electronic-repair-kits.com may have one for your set.
