im trying to rempve paint from metal but parts of it are still sticky and soft whats the best thing to do

like hammerite oxidation it was painted on with brush should have used a spray

From what i could gather across the web, that type of paint is oil base, now something i should have asked before, what are you painting?
cuz you could use like an acetone or mineral spirits, or may have to use a paint remover like zip strip or something of the sort.

im painting a metal letter box it was already painted new but got tarnished
so i decided to paint it realising now i should have used a spray and not a brush
|

oh i see.
well then i would suggest using a paint remover such as Zip-strip, or other brands that will take paint off metal.

could i let it just dry and then sandpaper it ???

You could try a sandpaper, but im not sure you would be able to get it all off.
with the paint stripper it takes way less work.
