I have an old Ni-Cd 18Volt charger, manufactured 08/2001
that has the red and green light charging indicator lights on
it. It worked fine for a while--then stopped working for no
apparent reason--not due to accident, overheating, water
damage, etc.

I contacted the company that makes the charger (based
in Germany) and actually rec'd a reply to the effect that
this particular model is no longer in production. (Surprise!)

I know I should part with it--but I am wondering is it
worthwhile to take it to an electronics repair shop (I will
call first)--for repairs--or just recycle the thing???

Does anyone have any (technical) knowledge or venture
to make an educated guess as to why an 18V NiCad battery charger would suddenly stop working for no
apparent reason? Are such repairs cost-prohibitive
unless you do it yourself? Can you get the necessary
parts at RadioShack, for example?
Thanks for any advice.
