The Sony KV-27TS29 TV stopped turning on last week. Since it has a Trinitron tube that still had a very good picture I opened it up this week and found that R607 was open circuit. It is a 0.1ohm, 1/2W fusible resistor. I did an online search and found this posting http://www.freelists.org/archives/techassist/11-2001/ msg01524.html
After checking Q601 & Q602 they were both shorted. The part number for Q601 & Q602 is C4834. Found that Gervais Electronics, Ottawa had these parts and went to pick up the parts. When there I talked with one of the shop guys behind the counter who very knowledgeable about TV repair having spent many years repairing TVs. He suggested that I check also the Power transistor (Q591 on my board) and look for bad solder joints. He also offered to look at the board if I brought it in. I did not find a bad solder joint with my plain eye. He found it with a magnifier. It was a cracked solder joint on a transformer (T502) that was only visible with a magnifier (about 6x).
After replacing R607, Q601, Q602, Q591 and resoldering T502 the TV is working perfectly for 2 days now.
