I have recently discovered that I have a leak somwhere between the water main and the house valve. The water main is located diagonally under the driveway about 50 feet in length. I have the "Big Blue Hose" polybutelene pipe installed in a 12 year old house (outside the pipe warranty period). I am not interested in tearing up my driveway. Several plumbing estimates have recommended we 1) have the city move the water main, dig a trench and install a new plastic pipe ($730 to move the main and $1600 to install the new pipe), or 2) use a cable and pull a new pipe through the old pipe, in the process cutting the old pipe as the new pipe goes through ($1520 for the whole job). My questions are: 1) Are there any better and/or cheaper ways to replace this pipe? 2) has anyone ever replaced the pipe using the cable pull method, 3) As a fairly handy person myself, can I replace the pipe by renting equipment to pull or push a new pipe through.

There are two distinct classes of what are called thoughts: those that we produce in ourselves by reflection and the act of thinking and those that bolt into the mind of their own accord.

locate the new pipe??? you gonna have to bust up some cement to frantically get to the old pipe if the driveway is over the city`s main pipe & where your old pipe is located..

Whenever someone asks me to define love, I usually think for a minute, then I spin around and pin the guy's arm behind his back. NOW who's asking the questions?
