Replacing the countertop may seem like a complicated project but in reality it is not that bad and can certainly be managed by oneself. After watching all those “redo your home” shows that make it look so easy, surely you can do it yourself. It really is not that hard and by following these following steps and a little help from family members you can give your kitchen the upgraded new look you have always dreamed of. 1. Order a new countertop fitting your kitchen. Look through laminate samples and choose the color suitable for you.

2. If you are working on a tight budget stick with squared-off edges rather than rounded and bull-nosed ones. They tend to be cheaper.

3. Disconnect the plumbing and remove the kitchen sink.

4. Remove the screws holding the old countertop in place. They are accessible from underneath the countertop.

5. Remove the old countertop.

6. Position the new countertop in place and install new screws.

7. Reinstall the kitchen sink and don’t forget to reattach the plumbing.

Great blog! Thank you for including one of our projects in your article.
You of course are righting about laminated counters. They are relatively easy to DIY.
If the kitchen cabinets are in good shape and one is not planning to replace them for a 5 years or more, sometimes, you may want to install granite, soapstone, Sylestone or other so called "solid surface" materials.
In this case I would let the professionals do the job. Usually, the fabricator will measure and install the counter.
Then the owner will just take care of additional support if needed and plumbing connections.
By the way, solid surface materials usually used with under-mount kitchen sink, which has to be purchased in advance. Your fabricator will attach it for you.
