hi thier i'm new this site but am desparatly trying to find an answer the my problem. I have a 1990 Escort that was formerly an XR3I, i,ve had an rs turbo engine rebuilt with a 2.0 zetec bottom end which makes this a 2.1 ZVH. I had it in my previous escort and ran lovely with no problems. I've now tranfered it to this new one leaving all the XR3I wiring intact so i could covert it to EFI. I've kept the XR3I head as thats already setup to run EFI, Along with the EDIS module & coil pack ECT as the fiesta turbo has the same setup. I've got the fiesta rs turbo ecu, map sensor, act sensor, and the whole inlet manifold from the fiesta turbo. The car hasnt run right since putting the engine in which i knew it wouldnt until i had got these parts. I've been on various Ford RS forums and they,ve told me what i needed to do the conversion and now everything is in place. Only problem is the car is still not running right, it will start first time but cut out after about 5 seconds. start it again and put ur foot down normally it will cut straight out. Start again put foot down gently and it will gently go up the rev range but sounding like its miss fireing, and when u take ur foot off it ticks over very lumpy for about 5 seconds then cuts out. The only one thing i can point to is that it still has the XR3I fuel pump but i thought this would be ok just for the car to tick over as i,m getting an uprated fiesta turbo fuel pump next month. I just wanted it ticking over so i know it runs ok before i change the pump and get it on the rollers, i,m not going to take it out on the road when i know its not got the right fuel pump in. Any ideas, thanks a lot

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS ENGINE CHANGE TURBO DOES NOT CHANGE THE ENGINE CUBIC IN .THE LAST FIVE OR SIX YEARS OF EXCORT WERE MADE FROM MAZADA 262S FORD OWN MAZADA AT THE TIME INSTEAD BUILDING A NEW PLANT OR REDESIGN EXCORT THEY USED MAZADA 626.YOU CAN NOT TAKE MAP SENSOR AND OTHER SENSOR MIX AND MATCH FORM ONE CAR TO ANOTHER COMPUTORS ARE PROGRAMED DIFFERENT FROM ONE CAR TO ANOTHER. THE ENGINE IS A 1.8 THATS THE ONLY ENGINE IT CAME IN THAT MODEL GUTLESS POWERLESS ABORTION FORD EVER BE STOWED ON AMERICAN PUBLIC.ANOTHER FORD PEICE OF JUNK.YOU HAVE RUIN THAT CAR JUNK IT.
YOU CANT CHANGE INTAKE MANIFOLDS EITHER AIR FUEL VOLUME IS DIFFERENT FROM MAZADA 262S.I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU READ ON FORD FORUM IT CAN BE DONE.YOU WOULD NEED A LARGE MACHINE SHOP TO MAKE CHANGES.I BEEN A TOOL AND DIE MAKER FOR 12 YEARS I HAVE SEEN NUMERUS STUPID IDEAS.FORM TEENAGERS.IT WOULD COST 80 TO 90 THOUSAND DOLLAR JUST TO GET SETUP MACHINES AND DIES.

I have a starting problem with my rs turbo, if you are completely efi i would try to get it to a rolling road for a proper set up/fault find.
And hobbist, you don't know what your talking about. Clearly you are American and talking about American cars/engines, they are very different in the UK and parts from the above CVH are in fact compatible (some) with the Zetec engine. As are inlet manifolds from one model of escort (CVH) to another.
If you don't know what your talking about DON'T RESPOND, and turn of your caps lock please.

How long does it run? Will it idle properly (in the right range RPM wise)? I've got to admit (and to be honest I've got no experience w/ Ford RS s), it sounds like one of two things, either a F/A mixture problem, or a timing issue.
(BTW, have you double checked to make sure the EFI ECU is properly grounded (not just to the case, but through the wiring also, since the PCBs are often isolated from the cases...) maybe you could describe the symptoms again? and in more detail?
