My son is having a very strong sewer gas smell coming from inside the toilet. Sometimes a film covers the water and when broken the smell is very very strong. Got any ideas?

well it sounds like sewage is backing up into the toilet. that smell could also be sewer gas which is why traps have water sitting in them to prevent that.
