Hi all,
I'm new to this site. Hope you can help me out. I have a very old Ariens snowblower....model number 910018 serial number 002491. I believe that the gear box assembly is gone. The teeth are worn down. My father-in-law looked at it and said that the ring and pinion need to be replaced...I noticed the problem after a huge snowstorm, I live in northern Maine (10 minutes from Canada), the auger would turn, but when I'd try to blow the snow, the auger would stop moving...the fan still turned...I'd back the blower out from the snow and I could stop the auger will my foot....He took it apart and this is what he came up with....Any thoughts as to how to fix the situation....I'm not good at this stuff but I'm willing to give it a try....The blower motor runs great...Hate to get rid of it....Thanks for your time....

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum and great you joined us.
I think your father in law is right. I think so mainly because with looking at it with your own eyes gives more reliable results than describing it. What does your father in law say he can do, can't he replace and fix it?

He says that he could probably fix it but it is so old, I believe 1973 model, that the parts are in question....if it is indeed what he says, is there a place online that I could find the parts....Expense? is it going to be more worth while to buy another one...?

If it is like a collector's item which a 1973 might well become soon, I think it is cheaper to buy a new secondhand one. What would he do with it if not repair it?

I'm not sure....If it is going to be too costly to repair as compared with buying a new one, maybe getting a new Ariens is the way to go....Is that your thought on the situation?...If so, I don't know what I'll do with it...Do you have any options?...I could send it to one of the new shows out where they blow stuff up...

Jcreole, perhaps it's possible to fix it, but logically speaking any appliance that old would carry the chance of that being an expensive thing. 1973 for a snowblower is quite old. No?
