I think that marines need solar power generator for backup energy so that they can use it for emergency purposes. I want to know some information about solar power. Your suggestions and information are much appreciated.

Great idea, anything we can do for our troops is.

Don't know much about the subject except I get the feeling that our current technology would limit any practical application that could be carried by an individual soldier would do little more than power up a flashlight.

We certainly need advancements in this field, and living in southern Arizona I sure could put it to good use, but my minimum outlay would be about $10,000, and for me, payback is everything.

While solar cells generate power passively and with no moving parts, they aren't particularly efficient.
That's especially true if you factor in the amount of space they take up.

That said, I've been working on a similar idea myself. I'm currently working with power tool cases because they are sturdy and are normally just thrown away.

I'm fabricating it so that opening the case fully exposes a panel in each half of the case to give about 4 sq ft of space for a split panel with the batteries and circuitry behind them. I'll have about 20 A*h feeding a 300W inverter.

Even so, for the same volume, the newer compact Honda gensets can put out way more useful power.

PV cells won't be ubiquitous until the efficiency is improved, perhaps through prismatic crystals that don't require being perpendicular to the sunlight to produce rated power. Another option may be to suspend pulverized crystals in a slurry rather than the expense of actually slicing the crystals.

Either way, we need solar cells to move to the next generation - that will do for power generation what ICs did for making electronics commonplace.
