sony dcr hc32 view screen went yellow, then red, now blank. Any suggestions?

Same with mine. Rumor mill has it that the flexible cable to the LCD display is faulty and needs replacement. I'm still trying to figure out the part number for this to fix mine. Hate buying the wrong part, having to send it back and pay restocking fee. Hate having Sony plunder my wallet even more and can't get a straight answer from them on this part number. One thing is that you need to be able to work with tiny circuity to fix this yourself.
