I have weil-mclain steam boiler, recently my entire living room was filled with steam condensation noted to be coming out from a rotted out return pipe from underneath the main radiator to the livimg room. i end up up cutting and capped both the main steam pipe and return pipe to the radiator from the basement in other to get heat to the rest of the house. Now I need to replace these 2 pipes, but they want a arm and a leg pricewise. can i replace the pipes with copper pipe for longevity? at least the return pipe, if not the 2in maim pipe?

Greetings bibo welcome to the Forum.

Sure, you can replace either with Copper, but you're going to need to be able to Solder the connectors on the Pipe, can you?

If not, then using Threaded Pipe may have to do, you can get lengths cut and threaded at a local Hardware Store, buy couplings or Unions as necessary, that may be easier?

You'll need tools to do either job. a Torch and Solder for the Copper, or Pipe Wrenches for the Threaded, got those?

Have a good Day !

I have used copper Type "L" for steam condensate and even steam supply but it depends on the PH of the water supply as water to acid will erode the tubing.
