I am trying to make a short film safely and I have a question about surge protectors.

Do surge protectors work backward? What I mean is, if I plug a microwave oven into a surge protector and then plug the surge protector into the wall and then I pack the microwave with steel wool and gunpowder and set it off remotely in the middle of a gravel field, will there be any chance of anything surging back to the socket?
