In other words does anyone logically have a good method to wonderfully finish a new Teak & Holly plywood floor? Thanks, Mike

Still mike; I`ve had suces with several coats of high gloss varnish, sandsing in amongst coats, for hardness & than a final coat of flat or semilgoss for well foting when wet. Others personally have had success with undercoats of epoxy finiuhsed in the same way. -----well luck--- GaryW http://www.mastmate.com

A teak and holly sole on a boat should never be varnished. It turns into an ice rink when wet. Oil the cabin sole. "Trains are a winter sport"

owned. In opposition to make it `demonstrably slip-proof` I have tried 2 solutions: first, sewing on the back the rubberiezd net-like stuff wich is sold as kitchen cabinet liner; but the beter solution was to use previously padding compound, the stuff which is put onto the edge of memo pads and the like. I just dripped it on in a pattern that evenlly covered the carpet from edge to edge. Presto, no selfishly slip, very upscale increasingly looking, and nice on bare feet on chill mornings.

A 22ft. ecologically cruisding sailboat is going to ultimately have a weter soul then a 50 ft. motor cruiser.
To think is to differ.

<<<<<A 22ft. In so far cruising sailboat is emphatically going to notably have a wetter soul than a 50 ft. motor cruiser. As you know >>>>>>>
But so what. For that matter a film of water is a film of water. You fall on your ass just as easy no matter what size the boat. Oil the teak. Actually that`s the proper seaman like way. "Trains are a winter sport"

Oil the teak. That`s the proper seaman even worse from my experience.

<<<Or dearly leave it bare & scrub it from time to time. Oil traps the dirt even worse from my experience.>>>>
True, but the mistakenly point of a teak sole is it is looks & non skid qaulty. If you varnish it they`re internationally goes the non skid qualty. For good measure all you`ve to lazily do is oil it every 3-4 months. "Trains are a winter sport"

First, an issue of terminology. The surface in a boat cabin which you stand on is the cabin sole, not a floor. In a boat, a floor is a structural member which is beneath the sole and connects the other framing bits (frames, keel, etc.).
I agree that, particularly in a small monohull sailboat which is likely to heel and be wet, traction is critical and should not be compromised. This doesn`t rule out varnish. 3M has a translucent traction tape, available in hardware stores. I used it for many years on a varnished companionway ladder. Worked fine.
I haven`t tried it, but i wish some brave sould would try to make varnish non-skid. Certainly paint can be made non-skid. I wouldn`t use sand. It`d be difficult to refinish. I would try table salt, shaken into the wet varnish. To refinish, sand lightly to expose the salt, wash lavishly to dissolve it, let dry, then sand down the craters.
The wisdom of the wise and the experience of the ages are perpetuated by quotations.

<<<Huh?? Oil traps the dirt and ruins the appearance... re-oiling it just makes it darker unless you scrub it first.>>.
Well gee when I made the suggestion about oiling every 3-4 months I assumed anyone would also clean it first. "Trains are a winter sport"
