I would say it is better to do which ever one is cheaper total cost (ie, parts cost, plus the opportunity cost (= to what you could be doing with the time you spent fixing the dang thing)). I would probably take it apart to see what's involved in properly repairing it, then call sears (or wherever) and find out how much the replacement glass is. (or vice versa)
I usually don't make a call like that until I'm sure of what I'm getting into...
BTW, why'd it break?
