You think they are junk? No! Do not throw them away. From a drop spindle to Christmas light reflectors, there are many cool ideas and things you can make out of used CD’s. Your kids can join the fun too. It’s a do it yourself for the whole family.

Paint the shiny side of the CD with acrylic paint and let dry. Then use a needle to scratch out the pain and expose the shine in a lacy pattern. Combine a few of these CD’s and create a picture.

For a drop spindle for spinning wool you need 2 CD’s, a dowel about 12 - 16 inches long some rubber tubing and a small metal hook. Place the rubber tubing around the dowel and place in the centre of the CD’s about four inches from the top. Screw metal hook into the top and spin.

CD’s are great reflectors of light. So you can enhance your Christmas lighting by fitting a small colours bulb through a CD before hanging it outside your home. The lights reflect of the shiny side and it looks really great.

For a romantic evening place candles on CD’s all over the room. The reflecting light will enhance the beauty of candle lights. The wax from candle will drop on the CD and spare you a lot of cleaning too…

A CD with a few candle son it can be a great centre- peace for the holiday season dinner table.

Decorative sun catcher: Glue two CD’s together (the labels parts facing each other) and make holes to hang using a warmed up needle or nail. The light reflects in many beautiful colours.

CD’s can be used a mirror or window borders. In a teenager’s room, even as a border for the wall paper if you have enough.

Break into small pieces and use for making a mosaic. The light reflection effects are awesome.

Use as a template for a perfect circle - you have two sizes.

A CD has a ready hole in the centre, so you can make a clock. Paint numbers or use plastic stickers and buy clockworks and insert behind CD.

Make a Mobile by stringing a few CD’s together.

Cover CD with felt and you can use it as coasters that have a decorative shiny top.

Hang on a yarn and then onto a tree. The CD will help keep birds away from your garden.

By heating the CD you can bend it. This way you can make small bowls. Seal the centre hole and serve candies in them.
