My wife's 2002 Pathfinder has a strange problem. When you step on the brake, the left directional does on - steady, not blinking. When you just turn the directional on, it blinks, but much louder that the other one, and when you step on the brake, it stays on steady and stops blinking.

She took it to a place where they specialize in wiring problems, and they said the module that was installed for the trailer lighting is faulty.

My question is, can I just disable or bypass the module for now since I don't need to be towing anything? If so, how do I locate the module? I've looked underneath and in the engine compartment and I can't find anything. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi BarryY, welcome to the forum

I think this depends on the type of trailer you have...

I'm not sure what a brake box is but the trailer does not have brakes, so I guess I probably don't have one.

Greetings Barry, and welcome to the Forum!

Gees this sounds perplexing ! Specially when "module" is used !

Are the Trailer Connections an after market install? Sounds like someone just messed up and got some wires shorted on your Light Connector for the Trailer.

Look at about the middle of the rear bumper, underneath it, and see if there's a taped or patched Connector added to your Tail/Brake lights.

If so, you can just remove it, and re-tape the wires separately, and see if that doesn't correct the problem.
Let us know what happens.

Have a good Day !

It is an aftermarket installation. The wires terminate at a plug inside the tailgate. The wires dissapear under the molding and I can't see where they go.

Barry,
If I'm right about this, you GOT to get to where the Connector Wires, couple with your wiring harness. I think that's where the problem is, where you have a couple of them touching each other, poorly taped and not separated.
Sounds like a problem I once had on a Trailer Connector of mine.
Dig Deeper !
