it all moves a turns but it wouldn't slide side to side. i have sense gotten it working by removing the rubber drive wheel and whacking it with a hammer got it working. i have ordered a new wheel.

yeah it was rusted to the shaft so i took a wire bush and a drill and got the rust off then used the hammer to get it too move. i also have a new shaft on the way also. heres the pic edited. 1 is the shaft 3 is the drive wheel 2 is the carrier 4 is the shafter arm and 5 is the mounting bracket. 4-5 were removed to allow better access. i removed the wheel 3 and hammered the carrier 2 untill it moved on the shaft 1.

hope so. this machine needed alot of work. replaced all fuelines and primer lines. going to replace the carb as the old one as so much gunk in it its not worth rebuilding. going to replace one of the tires sense it has a 24 hour leak in it. the trick is finding a site online that tells you what the new part numbers are sense the ones i got from ariens website have sense been replaced by other numbers. so hoping in about 2 weeks it should be running. it starts with gas poured into the sparkplug so its what we call a dry plug(not getting fuel)will also due a oil change on it.

Lexmarks, those part numbers... Doesn't the company manufacturing them provide information as to the new numbers?

no ariens didn't give me the new numbers. only one site told me that the numbers had been superseded by the new ones.

Well, that's pretty bad customer service if you ask me and would prevent me from buying anything anymore from that same company.

well airens website it self does not offer parts(yet) you print a parts list then either take it to a local small engine repair shop or shop around online. allot of times with these older machines the parts are no longer available. yet some newer machines might have parts that fit so the change the part number to reflect the current part. however only one place online told me that it was changed and gave me the new part number. Monday the hex shaft and friction wheel are to arrive. then tuesday the tire and valve stem are to arrive so tuesday i will install those parts and will order the carb.so hopefully another week this machine should be running. I will post a video of it running once i get it too that stage

ok after removing a bearing that is pressed into the frame i got the old shaft to slide out. the cog was loose so that made it easyer. slid the new shaft in and put the cog and key back in and installed the new friction wheel. it now shifts through all the gears. so now i got to install the new tire and install the new carb. so about 1 more week.

I hope no one minds me hijacking this thread.

I have a model 22999 Ariens 2 stage snow blower that I salvaged from the junk. I have replaced the motor and everything works except the drive wheels. The idler pulley that tensions the small belt that drives the wheels is missing. I am hoping that someone could take the time to measure this small idler pulley and give me the size of the OD, the width and what the groove looks like and I will make a new pulley. I procrastinated all summer and now the snow is here and I need to get this thing rolling.

Thanks,

Ernie

Have the same problem with the carrier not sliding on the carrier shaft. The friction wheel seems to be fine. Do you think just a good cleanup on the carrier shaft would do the trick or do I have to buy new? Also, did you replace the carrier or just the shaft?

if its rusty take a wire wheel attachment for a drill and get the rust off it. they spray it with wd-40 and let it sit. then give it a couple whacks with a hammer to free it. i would just replace the shaft. the carrier is not the problem.
