Hi
my washing machine wont agitate. I found, after opening it up that it seems a metal piece sheared off of the transmission, I think. Its spins but doesn't agitate. A new transmission costs more than what I payed for the washing machine in 2006.
Any suggestions?
thanks

that is your spin dog that locks outer drum with main shaft so it all spins in right direction.in oppsite direction it retracts and locks to agitate.you will notice little notches on outer ring where the bar lines up with it,outer drum wiggles back and forth in agitate, then a clunck noise in spin, this is this part locking in. then in spin both the outer drum and center shaft turn together.in agitate the outer drum unlocks moves freely while center shaft locks tranny so it agitates very simple design. i paid 15.00 u.s dollars for the parts listed from g.e dealer my mother bought the machine from.recommend getting the part, a new gasket and a quart of 90 weight gear box oil also new belt.you will notice that the peice has gear teeth matches gear teeth on center shaft clevest type setup.you turn shaft by hand while inserting latch bar it all fits nicely.this was a com-mond problem with g.e. washer that has a plastic outside housing.low cost model works well after repair it, out lived my mother and my sister still has one or two belts maybe.
repaired many undered warranty my self.
