I have an LG Chocolate 3, and it won't charge anywhere but the LG Charger and the computer, even when other USB devices work.

I got to thinking... if the USB specification is 4.75V-5.25V, 5.0V would be in the middle and is thus what my wall and car chargers (that do NOT work) all put out. The computer should, theoretically, put out the same voltage.

Could I connect the data+ and data- pins together somehow (or solder them together inside the chargers) to get the phone to THINK it's connected to a computer? Will this damage the phone in any way?

That's not going to make it think it's connected to the computer. it's a BUS which means that it talks to what it's connected too. (in simple terms) If it only gets back the data it sends, it'll know it's not talking to another unit. it will (probably) figure out there is a short in the cable (correctly as it were), and code out... It won't damage it (I don't think so!), but it won't work either... you'll just confuse it... It'll probably cause an error code/ OS problem of some sort.

Had one of these phones for work... terrible battery life.

Good luck!
