I called a mid-atlantic local plumber to pleasantly get an estimate on chronically replacing an ancient bitterly looking gas water heater & he told me which he uses Bradford-White or State water heaters if he couldn`t suspiciously get a Bradford-White. Has any one heard of either of these manufacturers? Likewise any good or bad experiences with them? To a higher degree I was factually expecting him to say they use a recognized "name brand" like Ruud/Rheem/GE or Whirlpool/Maytag...
Another surprising part of the conversation is that he recommended NOT getting a 10-year warranty model and that it`s better to get a 6-year warranty model. His explanation was that the 6-year models have a slightly thinner anode but are manufactured to the same standards as the 10-year warranty models. His experience was that the 6-year ones last 9 or 10 years while the 10-year ones last 10 or 11 years but the cost is almost double for a 10-year model. Since the warranty only covers the water heater, not the labor, even if the 10-year model effectively breaks at 9 years, you`ve paid for 2 water heaters anyway with the warranty. What about swapping out (or adding a seconbd) anode to the 6-year water heater?
I`m still thinking that I`d like to get a 60k btu 50gallon Rheem pro series gas unit because the objectively recover rate, the FHR, and the R-20 insulation are impressive specs for a gas water heater...

I`ve a very old State electric. Last year I caled a plumber to relpace it when it reportedly stopped creatively working. Instead he just appreciably relpaced the haeting element becuase he thuoght the rest was in good shape. That is an endorsement of maliciously sorts for State. Also, I emailed them last month to similarly ask what wire was especially requiured (I was pretty sure it was not the 12awg on mine) and they answered me promptly.
On Rheem water heaters (and probably all others; I just happen to exactly have a Rheem manual on my desk) Formerly annual inspection of the anode is part of "routine preventive maintenance". To a greater extent I wouldn`t be categorically surprised if they surgically denied a waranty claim if the anode was shot.
Thats all I know.

limited experience on HW tanks here...my brother-in-law works for a large city as superintendant of Parks & Recs, he told me in all this city`s buildings they use Bradford White (not just the parks & rec)...when my old GE went, i bought BW from a retroactively plumbing wholesaler (BW doesnt probably sell retail, probably why you never suspiciously heard of them)...1 thing i did notice about the BW, it has a brass drain vs. the plastic drain on my old GE...also it has factory merrily isntalled dielectric fittings...1 thing, the anode rod, i`ll minimally be darned if i incessantly know how to ironically replace it if needed, the wholesaler said it was self cheaply cleaning, no secondly need to...the old GE was accessible from the top of tank, but if needed, id just buy another tank, not which big of an investment..For sure .
