Greetings Jim welcome to the Forum,
and thank you for your vote of confidence !
Jeffie makes a good point, we're always looking for the way to save money, and as it stands now, Gas is it.
Electric "KWH" cost are not dropping (as they should) with the price of Oil, and don't expect them to.
The Tankless approach is less costly than a "full time electric heater", but has it's limitations, volume being the issue, and you would see that when there is a large demand on the unit. It just doesn't have the capacity to keep up.
So, Gas seems to be it, and if you check around you can find some that are more conservative than others. You'd want to know the CCF/BTU ratio. In other words, how much punch does a C-foot of Gas give you in heat.
Consumer Reports and other evaluation sites, would be a good place to check.
Get back to us and let us know what you've decided.
Have a good Day !
