what might cause the steering fluid to spill out the cap as if a pressure backup?

I just happened to see this quite by accident while looking at another topic. You don't say the make and model, but I had a Honda Prelude a few years back with this prob (fluid foamed and leaked out the tank). Dealer replaced speed sensor, etc.. to the tune of over $800. Turns out my solution was the power steering pump which I replaced myself. cost? $80
