Why massive wooden staircase???

Lets talk about why people in UK and other countries including USA use in existing houses and build in their new houses big lumping and creaky wooden staircases? I just don't get it... Is it some habit or stereotype about how must staircase look like? Or some tradition? Please give me your opinion! Thanks.

That's an interesting question! I don't agree with you that this is so. However, I am not living neither in the U.K. nor in the U.S.

if you can afford why not ,big house big stairs.
